Description:
Drawn from one of our oldest recipes, Smitten Ale began as part of a series of rye beers at our Eccentric Café. The combination of sharp citrus & resinous flavors from the hops with the earthy, rustic overtones of the rye malt contribution yield an interesting take on the American Pale Ale. Wouldn't call me smitten with this one
Bell’s Smitten Golden Rye Ale is an American style pale ale. It pours a golden color with a thick creamy head with lots of retention. I’m not sure of the hops in this beer, but it smells like a great american pale ale should smell: hoppy, but not overly pungent. Not a lot of citrus notes, just earthy hop goodness. The flavor is dry and bright. A decent amount of bitterness from the hops. This is a good beer, but nothing out of the ordinary for me.
