The original George brewed the first batch of Enniscorthy Ruby Ale, the inspiration for George Killian’s Irish Red. He just wanted a better beer to share with his friends. He then founded Mill Park Brewery in Enniscorthy, Ireland, so he could share his ruby-colored ale with all of Ireland. George Killian Lett III decided that his family’s beer was too good to share with only the people of Ireland so he brought George Killian’s Irish Red to America in 1981. You Don't Need a Kilt for this Irish Red
Killian's Irish Red pours a deep yet transparent red (as its name suggests) with about a fingers worth of off-white (red-tinted, maybe?) head. Smells primarily of malt, although there is also the faint smell of hops and an even fainter sweetness. Taste is relatively balanced, with the crispness of the malt and a bit of carbonation the primary taste, with some bitterness from the hops toward the end. Mouthfeel is perhaps a little thinner than the beer's color would suggest, but it is still a medium body in the mouth with moderate carbonation. A little bit of an unpleasant bitterness in the aftertaste, though.
Was expecting more for some reason
Pour is clear amber, almost pink. The head was small, white, and short-lived. It smelled sweet and malty. Flavor started sweet, then shifted kinda quickly to bitterness with a hint of hops on the finish only. The beer taste was more dynamic than many grocery store beers, but the actual taste didn't do anything for me. A change of pace beer when your other options are Bud or Coronas, I guess.
